“Diversity is counting the numbers, inclusion is making the numbers count.”
Prof. Boris Groysberg, Harvard University
Why am I a diversity enthusiast?
I am since I belong to a diversity dimension myself. But not only. I strongly believe in Diversity – and in the sciences, that prove that diverse organizations are more successful than monocultural ones.
It is not only intrinsic factors that make organizations want to create more diversity in their own workforce and in their client/customer base. There are factors like diversity quotas, non-discrimination acts and other compliance frameworks in the world these days. It’s a good idea to adhere to the legal frameworks, but it’s even more paying off when organizations really *want* to be diverse and inclusive.
And, in times where political regimes trigger roll-backs with regard to minority groups’ rights, in a world where homosexuality is still sanctioned by death penalty in numerous countries, in a world where in democratic states people are killed because of their skin color, in a world where transgender persons are denied their own identity and are bullied and harmed for being who they are – we need more diversity advocates.
Diversity topics I feel close to include
The business case for diversity and inclusion
Why are diverse businesses more successful? How can you introduce diversity in your company? Why is diversity a management concept and not “just nice to have”? Where does diversity as a concept come from (spoiler: it’s nothing new!)? Learn about the drivers for diversity and inclusion and make the numbers count!
Unconscious bias
Why are we all biased and why is that generally okay? How does our brain work? Unconscious bias – isn’t that the unintended unequal treatment of men and women? Yes, it is. And no, it is more than that. In my unconscious bias trainings you can learn what unconscious bias is – and how to overcome biases in the workplace.
LGBT+ diversity in the workplace
What are the LGBT+ dimensions? What are the acronyms about? How to become an LGBT+ inclusive employer? Why are Allies so important? How can you set up an LGBT+ or Allies network? This facet of my topics is not all on pride, rainbow flags and parties!
Gender identity in the workplace
What is gender identity and what is trans and non-binary? What is the difference between gender roles and sexual orientation? How can you be a truly trans and non-binary inclusive employer? Why is gender-sensitive and gender-inclusive language important? This umbrella of topics is not focusing on pronouns and toilets, promised, but it’s likely we speak about those.
“Great session on the business case for diversity today! Thank you very much for your time and for sharing your insights with us during the conference. Much appreciated and hope to have you as a speaker again some time.”
